Principal’s Message

Aim High

At Bellaire Primary School we ‘Aim High’ to provide a secure, collaborative and challenging environment that supports all students in maximising their achievements by being active participants in driving their learning in preparation for life long success as proactive, global citizens.

AT OUR SCHOOL WE VALUE:

  • happy and confident people who display compassion, perseverance and resilience,

  • developing a local and global view of the world where people have an understanding of and empathy for other cultures,

  • effective communication and reflection when engaging with a range of audiences,

  • initiative in taking action to make a positive difference to self and others,

  • interpersonal skills that support us in working collaboratively in a positive way,

  • critical and creative thinking,

  • safe and respectful behaviours in online and offline environments.

These values are displayed throughout the whole school by our ‘Behaviours We Value’ trees. The trees are used to guide feedback for students, inclusive of student behaviour awards for modelling the behaviours we value.

SCHOOL SETTING

Bellaire Primary School is located in the suburb of Highton in Geelong and students are drawn from both Highton and surrounding areas. In 2021 there are 27 home groups across four learning communities. We have a leadership team that consists of our Principal, two Assistant Principals (Prep-2 and Years 3-6) and two Leading Teachers, who work as instructional coaches for the teachers in the classrooms.

LEARNING COMMUNITIES

Although our students work in Learning Communities – Prep, Junior, Middle and Seniors – our classes are all straight year levels.

We have four x Prep classes, fivex Year 1 classes, four x Year 2 classes, four x Year 3 classes, four x Year 4 classes, four x Year 5 classes and three x Year 6 classes.

The school also has a Specialists precinct, existing of The Arts (Visual and Drama/Music), Physical Education, French, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) and a well-resourced library. The school has experienced a steady enrolment over the past few years and have 627 students enrolled in 2022. The school also has a strong wellbeing focus.

INNOVATION LEADERS

Bellaire Primary School is a leading school in the innovation of education, with an ‘Aim High’ approach to teaching and learning. The development of learning spaces to facilitate personalised learning, engagement of students and the creation of learning communities has been a major focus. The school has also implemented a digital overlay in each learning community and Specialist subject areas; developing professional knowledge and providing resources in a suite of technologies. This is inclusive of Years 3-6 BYOD (iPad) program in Middles and Seniors.

ABOUT BELLAIRE PRIMARY SCHOOL

59-71 Larcombe St. Highton, VIC 3216

Bellaire Primary School is situated on four hectares of land in the suburb of Highton and provides an attractive landscaped environment with dynamic play areas.

The school offers quality Before and After School Care (Outside School Hours Care OSHC).

Students come to Bellaire from local pre-schools. The school has experienced an increasing enrolment over the past few years. The school is a member of the Barwon South Schools Network and works closely with other schools in this area. Bellaire has developed strong links with local pre-schools and secondary schools to provide for effective transition from one setting to the next.

Bellaire is well known for its innovative curriculum approaches and has received several teaching awards in recognition of this. Teachers in the school work in teams to provide an excellent educational program for all students. Students participate in specialist classes in French, Physical Education, STEAM, Library and The Arts (Visual and Performing Arts).

Bellaire aims to develop digitally literate students for the 21st century by purposefully designing curriculum that transforms the way students learn; allowing greater engagement and involvement in their learning. As well as a strong integration of digital technologies in Prep – Year 2, Bellaire also operates a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program for students in Years 3 – 6. These devices are used as tools to support and enhance learning, and do not replace the role of the teacher, nor learning to write using pens/pencils.

It is a legislative requirement that all Victorian government schools prepare an Annual Report to the School Community (by 30 April each year) for publication on the State Register. The Annual Report provides principals and school councils with an opportunity to share the year’s achievements and progress with the school community. This includes reflecting on the school’s performance and explaining the positive impact of school improvement efforts on student outcomes.
