A Message From the Acting Principal

I hope this message finds you all well as we are approaching the midpoint of the year. It’s been a busy fortnight at Bellaire, and I have some important updates and reminders to share with you…

Mrs. Sarah Kennedy’s Last Day and Maternity Leave

I would like to take this opportunity to announce that today (Friday) will be Mrs. Sarah Kennedy’s last day before she embarks on her maternity leave. We extend our warmest wishes to her and her husband Pat as they prepare for this exciting new chapter in their lives. We are fortunate to have Mr. Jackson stepping in as Mrs. Kennedy’s replacement in 2SK, and we are confident that he will provide excellent support to the students in her absence.

Bellaire Parents Group Trivia Night

I would like to commend the Bellaire Parents Group for organising a highly successful Trivia Night last Saturday. We were impressed by how well organised the event was. Reports from attendees have been overwhelmingly positive, and the event managed to raise significant funds for our school. Thank you to all the parents and volunteers who contributed their time and effort to make this event such a resounding success.

Bellaire Parents Group – Hot Cross Buns Funds

Thanks to the Parents Group, and the incredible support of our parent community, we’re thrilled to announce the arrival of brand-new sandpit play equipment for our students! The funds raised during our Hot Cross Bun drive made this possible, and we couldn’t be more grateful. We witnessed many smiles and laughter of our students enjoying their new sandpit play equipment for the first time today!

Important Reminders

I would like to remind everyone that this coming Monday, 12th June, is the King’s Birthday public holiday, and there will be no school on that day.

Additionally, the last day of Term 2 is Friday, 23rd June, with classes concluding at 2.30pm. Please mark these dates in your calendars to ensure a smooth transition into the upcoming break.

School Uniform

We kindly request your support in reminding your children to wear their school uniform consistently. By doing so, we reinforce discipline, professionalism, and consistency within the school. A neat and tidy appearance fosters a positive learning environment for all students, and we greatly appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Semester Two Reports

Semester Two reports are scheduled to be published via Sentral and email on Wednesday, 21st June. These reports provide valuable feedback on your child’s progress and achievements throughout the semester. We encourage you to take the time to review the reports thoroughly and discuss them with your child.

Building Works and Community Information Event

As you are aware we have experienced delays in the construction process. To address any concerns or queries regarding these delays, we will be hosting a community information event, run by the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) on Wednesday, 21st June, from 2.45pm to 3.30pm. This will be an opportunity for you to gather more information and have any questions answered. We encourage your attendance and value your input. Event details and registration links will be provided to you all.

Parent Helpers

If you wish to be a parent helper in your child’s classroom, you must have completed an induction. Therefore, Mrs. Rau will lead another Parent Helper induction at the start of next term. Stay tuned for more details in future newsletters and school communications.

Thank you all for your ongoing support and involvement in the Bellaire School community. Together, we continue to nurture a positive and enriching educational experience for our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Bellaire Parents Group Update

Bellaire Parents Group Trivia Night Fundraising Round up

Oh, what a night!  The Trivia night was held last Saturday night and it was fantastic to see so many of our parents and community get involved in the occasion.  Congratulations to The Jazzagals table (team captain Emma Graham) who took out the trivia win in a tense bowl off!  As well as being a great night to socialise and have lots of fun, it was also an event to raise money for the student wellbeing program.

As we wrap up the Silent Auction, Mega Raffle and Trivia night, we are ecstatic to share that we have raised a total of $15,605!!

Whether you attended the trivia night, bought a raffle ticket or bid on the silent auction, you have all helped contribute so – THANK YOU!  We could not have done it without the Bellaire community, so thank you once again for your deep pockets and big hearts.

We would like to give a special shout out to those that helped bring the trivia night together including:

  • Greg Dundas – Trivia master – so much effort was put in to the interesting array of questions, we are so appreciative!
  • Joel McInnes – Superstar MC who kept the night on track
  • Ben Powe and Matt Roberts – our very own Auctioneer extraordinaries who helped raise a staggering $1,555 with the live auction on the night
  • Tom Sheehan – for capturing the night with some fantastic photos
  • Lauren Hyland – for the crafty little table numbers

This fundraising event has also been a triumph due to the enormous amount of goods and services donated by our Bellaire community, our local and wider community, and of course the time and commitment contributed by our very own Bellaire Parents Group.

A special thank you to Bellaire Parent Group members Amy Wilson, Kristy Lazic and Rebecca Stokes for bringing so many amazing sponsors on board and for all of your help in organising the event.

Congratulations also must go to our Mega Raffle winners who were being announced at assembly this afternoon – we hope it has been your lucky day!  Also, if you were a successful bidder in the online Silent Auction and haven’t done so already, please collect your prize from the office.

We are always on the lookout for more volunteers for our Bellaire Parents Group so if you’d like to join in the fun check out our Facebook page or contact one of us directly, we’d love to hear from you!

“A Tune In June” – Help Kids and Families with Cancer!

On Thursday, June 22nd (last week of school) the Junior School Council are organising a whole-school event “A Tune In June”. This is to help raise funds for children and families fighting cancer by making a gold coin donation. Students can wear a splash of yellow or dress up as their favourite pop star to add to the excitement of the day. The money for this fundraiser will provide pre-primary school aged cancer patients access to music therapist or group music sessions and funding to attend a music program or purchase a musical instrument.

Why a splash of yellow?

The Musical Moments Trust scholarship is in memory of an inspirational little boy whose favourite colour was yellow. Music brought him happiness, whether singing or dancing, music always put a smile on his face.

Wellbeing

Processing emotions

Children can experience ‘big feelings’ at times but not necessarily have the tools to cope with them. Often, we can default to asking the question “what’s wrong or what happened?”, which is a good starting point, but this does not always provide the child with enough scaffolding to be able to articulate how they really feel. Some alternative questions to ask to support your child in processing their own emotions include:

  • Who was there? What did they/you say or do?
  • What do you think caused the situation?
  • How did you feel while it was happening? What was happening in your body?
  • How do you think other people felt? How could you tell they felt that way?
  • What do you think your body language/tone told other people about how you felt?
  • What would you change about this event to make it a more positive interaction?
