WELCOME EVENING

I would like to thank the Bellaire Parents group, led at the time by Kristy and the event organised by Kristy and Rebecca, for providing such a wonderful event for our families. We had wonderful attendance on the night and thank all of those who contributed towards making the night what it was.

We successfully raised $1261 which will go towards building a second Gaga pit for the younger students in the school.

We look forward to more events taking place this year to bring our community together. We would like to thank Kristy Lazic, and along side her Lisa and Kate, for their leadership of the Bellaire Parents group over the past years – we are extremely grateful for her hard work. We will hear more from our Bellaire Parents group in the next few weeks – watch this space!

CELEBRATING OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF – Great Otway Odyssey MTB & G.O.G.G. Races

Well done to Bellaire students and their families who entered the Great Otway Odyssey Mountain and Gravel Bike races at Forrest last weekend. Arlo and Raff completed the 10km MTB race. Arlo came Top 20 in the U16 category and Raff came 29th in the same race amongst a field of 85 competitors. Ms. Tammie Kite also competed on Sunday in the 49km Gravel Race. She placed 2nd in the Veteran Women’s category and finished 9th woman overall. Congratulations!

MEET AND GREET NIGHT

We would like to thank everyone who was able to attend the Meet and Greet interviews with our teachers. It was wonderful to once again be able to hold these in person.

A LETTER FROM SCHOOL COUNCIL TO THE BELLAIRE COMMUNITY

Welcome to the 2023 school year, and a warm welcome to new families to our school.  I hope you have all settled into the school year with relative ease.

For those of you who attended the Welcome Evening a couple of weeks ago, I hope you enjoyed the night.  Thank goodness the temp dropped off a few degrees in the nick of time, and the feedback I have heard is that there was much fun had by all and the food trucks and DJ were fantastic.  Thank you to the Bellaire Parents group for all their hard work in putting on another successful event.  The evening raised just over $1261 for the school, which will go towards a second GaGa pit which we know will be a huge hit with the students!

The school council held its first meeting of the year on Monday, with a jam-packed agenda.  A few pieces of note to share with the broader school community are below.

Building works

Mrs Prendergast, Mr Raidme and Mrs Loney continue to work closely with the architects and keep the school building authority to task in progressing the building works.  We are confident the project will officially begin soon, with the final parts of the administrative and tender process nearly complete.  We thank the school community for their patience – we know the demolition area is unsightly and it appears there is no progress, but we assure you there is much work happening behind the scenes!

Bellaire Parents Group

The Bellaire Parents Group has recently had a change in leadership!  I would like to thank Kristy Lazic, Lisa Dundas and Kate Trickett for their many years of hard work and dedication to getting an active and engaged parents group together, who have led multiple fundraising and school community events including the Welcome Picnic, Trivia night, parent’s day events and many more.  The sense of school community the parents group provides is terrific, and we look forward to continuing to support the new leaders of the group:  Tanya Basu, Sharon Hands and Kais Chalka.  If anyone is interested in joining the group, please email bellaireparents@yahoo.com.au or search for the group on Facebook.

Shade sails

Part of the shade sail over the grade 6 playground had to be removed as it was damaged.  We are working to get this replaced as soon as possible to ensure our students are able to play safely.

We will communicate with the school community after each council meeting, to keep you updated with policy changes, building works and other key initiatives.

Please feel free to reach out to us if you wish to discuss any of the above or raise a topic for consideration.  I can be contacted via email at angelasormaz1@gmail.com or feel free to leave a message with the office and I can get in touch.

PARENT HELPER SESSION – WEDNESDAY

We would like to thank those parents who attended last Wednesday’s Parent Helper Induction session. We had a fantastic turnout of 30 parents – which was the first time we have been able to facilitate this face-to-face post-Covid. Parent helpers are such an important aspect of our school and we are incredibly grateful for parents who are willing to give up their time to come in and help with our classroom programs. It means we can continue to provide the best possible opportunities to our students.

Classroom teachers will communicate information to their own classes over the next few weeks about times and availability for having parent helpers in their classrooms. A reminder that Prep classes will look to begin this next term.

If you were unable to attend the session, but are interested in helping in the classroom, please communicate this to your child’s teacher. We will endeavour to facilitate an induction in an alternative way. Before any parent helping can begin, an induction must be completed.
