AN IMPORTANT REMINDER TO FAMILIES

We kindly remind members of our community to not enter the school grounds before or after school hours or on weekends.  There have been some examples recently where our Department-employed Security Team have informed us that students, families and members of the general public have been on school property outside school hours. Given the current climate and the restrictions in place to manage COVID-19, the only people allowed on site (as per signage) are school staff and school-employed contractors.  If you notice any suspicious activity or people on school property who should not be there, please report it to the Police on 000.  Thank you for your understanding.

A Message From The Principal

What a week it has been – from wind, to amazing news about funding, to Prep 2021 transition!

AMAZING NEWS ABOUT FUNDING! On Tuesday, we received a phone call that Darren Cheeseman, MP wanted to come and visit the school to deliver some good news. I rang Angela Sormaz, our School Council President, and the two of us waited and wondered as to what the news possibly could be. We did not expect the answer to be $7.64 MILLION to begin to rebuild our school. It was AMAZING news and our work has just begun. This will not be a quick process. There is a lot to be done, but we will continue to keep you informed of news as we progress through the processes.

TUTORING LEARNING PROGRAM 2021 – Many of you may have heard about the Tutor Learning Program being introduced by the Department of Education in 2021 to all schools.  The Tutor Learning Program has been designed to support students whose learning has been disrupted as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.  To ensure schools can participate effectively in the program, all schools will receive a base level allocation of funding with additional loadings based on student enrolments and disadvantage.  The tutoring will take place within classrooms with small groups of students and the staff and I are currently identifying eligible students for this initiative. We will be able to use these funds strategically to support those students identified as having their learning disrupted due to COVID and who require additional support in 2021.

END OF YEAR REPORTING – Over the past month students have been taken through a variety of assessments and teachers are now working on end of year reports.  These will become available on Sentral on the evening of Wednesday 16th December. In the lead up to reports we will be provide additional information to support the understanding of this years reporting process.

END OF YEAR CELEBRATIONS – We have managed to organise end of year celebrations for our Middle and Senior students. Our Middles will be going to Super World on Thursday 17th December and our Seniors will be going to Adventure Park on Thursday 3rd December. More information will be sent to these Learning Communities soon. After the announcement on Sunday from Daniel Andrews we will confirm plans for the Prep and Junior students.

GRADUATION – Our Year 6 Graduation will be held on Wednesday 16th December at 5.30pm at school. More information will be sent to our Year 6 families.

Keira A from Senior DP wrote this poem in class about Graduation and we wanted to share it.

TRANSITION OF STUDENTS 2021 – We have been working extremely hard with our teachers to plan a transition program that will ensure our students feel comfortable moving into 2021. We will be holding the following transition sessions for our students at school.

  • Friday 27th November – students will have lunch in their learning community space and with the group of teachers that will be in their area (except those teachers from other schools who will not begin until 2021).
  • Friday 4th December – students will spend 11.30am – 1.30pm in their new learning community with the group of teachers that will be in their area (except those teachers from other schools who will not begin until 2021).
  • Friday 11th December – students will spend 9am – 11am in their new class groups and be introduced to their 2021 teacher. All 2021 teachers will be in attendance on this day.

The BRAVE Program – Cognitive behavioural therapy for child anxiety

https://www.brave-online.com

BRAVE is an online, psychological program for the treatment of childhood and adolescent anxiety.

The Program was developed by a team of researchers at the University of Queensland. As a result, the Program is based on actual research evidence, and parents can rest assured their child is receiving a high-quality treatment program.

BRAVE is based on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), the most effective method for overcoming anxiety in children and teenagers.

The BRAVE Program is an interactive, online program for the prevention and treatment of childhood and adolescent anxiety. The programs are free and provide ways for children and teenagers to better cope with their worries. There are also programs for parents. We have found these online learning modules to be extremely well developed and have really positive outcomes when completed together with your child. BRAVE can be completed in your own home, at your own pace, and at a time that suits you. You can also have a BRAVE Trainer help family work through the program. They will email you each week, and even talk to you over the phone during the program.
