AN IMPORTANT REMINDER TO FAMILIES

We kindly remind members of our community to not enter the school grounds before or after school hours or on weekends.  There have been some examples recently where our Department-employed Security Team have informed us that students, families and members of the general public have been on school property outside school hours. Given the current climate and the restrictions in place to manage COVID-19, the only people allowed on site (as per signage) are school staff and school-employed contractors.  If you notice any suspicious activity or people on school property who should not be there, please report it to the Police on 000.  Thank you for your understanding.

A Message From The Principal

We had a taste of beautiful weather this week, unfortunately, it hasn’t stayed! I hope that we will get a run on nice weather soon.

HATS & DRINK TAPS – Please remember that hats must be worn at recess and lunch. Drink taps are also out of use due to COVID restrictions. We are able to fill up drink bottles however, the students cannot use the taps. Please remember to send / bring drink bottles to school.

START OF DAY – School supervision and entry does not being before 8.45am. We are noticing a number of students are arriving earlier and waiting for a while at the front gates. We ask that students not arrive at school prior to 8.45am. Our OSHC is available if this is not possible.

NAIDOC WEEK – NAIDOC Week celebrations are held around the country each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The National NAIDOC Committee has announced NAIDOC Week celebrations will be held from 8-15 November 2020.

NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’. This committee was once responsible for organising national activities during NAIDOC Week and its acronym has since become the name of the week itself.

The students will be undertaking NAIDOC week activities within their classrooms in the coming week.

SUNSCREEN & MOSQUITOS – With the warmer weather approaching, we encourage all students to apply sunscreen prior to arriving at school. I also know we have a number of mosquitos around the school. We understand this is a problem and have investigated spraying. The OH&S unit of the Department of Education have advised this be done over school holidays. We will build it into the planning for works in September 2021. We advise that you apply a spray before coming to school. If your child has an allergic reaction to mosquito bites please advise the office.

YEAR 6 GRADUATION – The year 6 graduation will take place on Wednesday 16th December in our SLU building. Unfortunately, due to Department of Education Guidelines, in line with the State Government, parents are not able to attend. We will be providing parents with a link that will allow them to watch the presentations.

Students will need to arrive at our front gate (Larcombe Street) at 5.30pm (no later than 5.40pm as the gates will then be locked). The teachers and school leadership will greet the students and walk them down to the SLU where we will provide them with dinner and then the graduation ceremony will take place. Year 6 families – more information will be sent in the coming weeks.

STAFF / STUDENT NETBALL, CRICKET and DODGEBALL – Today is the Staff vs Student netball match. Each fortnight we will be playing a different sport. Next will be cricket and then dodgeball!
